Carol Vanderveer Hamilton

Biography


Carol V. Hamilton has a Ph.D. in English from Berkeley, an M.F.A. from Vermont College, and a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her scholarly articles have been published in such academic journals as The Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies, Ctheory, Oxford German Studies, and Anarchist Studies. Her poems have appeared in recent issues of The Paris Review, The North American Review, Poetry Miscellany, The Gettysburg Review, Salmagundi, Frank, and DoubleTake.

Her screenplay,A Natural Aristocrat, made the top 5% (245 out of 4889 entries) in the 2006 Nicholls competition, sponsored by the Academy of Motion Pictures. It was a semifinalist in the 2007 Writemovies International Competition. A Natural Aristocrat tells the true story of the stormy life and dramatic death of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton has recently rewritten the screenplay, under the same title, as both an opera libretto (for composer Peter Josheff of the SF Bay Area) and a stage play.
